Since 2008, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) have been legally required for any commercial building over 50 m2 when it is built, sold or rented. The certificate is valid for 10 years and must be accompanied by any recommendations report. The revelations report should include references to the existing recognised benchmarks, with suggestions on cost-effective measures to improve energy performance.

For the most part, an energy survey of a building will be required to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption costs and increase energy efficiency in the building fabric, building services and equipment.

With an average life of approximately 1000 hours of use, tungsten filament lamps should be replaced with an equivalent energy saving lamp, such as a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). Compact version lamps will often provide as much as 8000 hours of use and will typically provide savings of up to 75% on your energy bills.
