Automatic meter reading

Most organisations can use automatic meter reading to measure, collect and record energy information that can be transmitted to a PC or over the Internet to create reports and analysis that will help towards better energy management.

Energy Surveys

For the most part, an energy survey of a building will be required to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption costs and increase energy efficiency in the building fabric, building services and equipment.

Energy Survey Data Collection

When carrying out an energy survey, data collection should include a wide range of information that can best identify how and why energy is being used.

Thermostatic Radiator Valves

By fitting thermostatic radiator valves to your radiators, you can more easily control the temperature of each radiator in a room and thereby reduce the energy consumption of fuel heating system.

Thermostatic radiator valves are also known as TRV's and they work by sensing the temperature of the air around the radiator to ensure that the radiator is only providing heat when it needs to do so.

Occupancy Sensors

Occupancy sensors enable artificial lighting to be more effectively controlled and only used when it is actually required. As a result, occupancy sensors can often produce siginificant savings on energy consumption and costs.

Types of Occupancy Sensors

There are essentially two different types of occupancy sensors:

Compressed Air Heat Recovery

Compressed air heat recovery can be used to recover heat from the compressor to provide hot air or hot water in other areas of the site.

Compressed Air Leak Detection

Compressed air leak detection is often one of the easiest and fastest ways to reduce wasted energy within inustry.

Locate and reduce compressed air leaks as soon as possible.

Reducing Compressed Air Energy Consumption

Maintenance

  • Replace air intake filters to reduce energy consumption by 4%
  • Idling compressors can use as much as 40% energy, and should be switched off
  • Install an automatic pressure controller to have the most efficient settings for the compressed air system
  • Minimise pressure drops to no more than 0.2 by using one pressure guage to measure pressure at the compressor and the farthest point of the system

Improve Air Quality

Green Building Design

Green building design should take a holistic approach and include the building envelope, the climate, building services, and human factors.Green building design should adopt a top-down approach that considers the overall design intent before implementing any individual measures.

Building Services

When considering the building services energy efficiency should look at areas such as the type and size of the system to be employed, planned controls and efficiency, fuels and operating regime.

Building Envelope

Energy Efficiency in Building Services

energy efficiency in building services is essentially achieved by minimising the requirement for the building services and in doing so minimising the energy consumed. In a cold climate energy efficiency can be achieved by optimising heat gains through careful orientation of the building and by using suitable technologies in the construction of the building. Insulation and heat recovery should ensure that where heat is generated to warm a building it is not lost rapidly to be external environment.
